Needle length based on skin condition:

  • Scars/Acne scars: Derma rollers are extremely effective for those who suffer from acne scars or scars in general by stimulating the repair processes of the skin and giving your skin the opportunity to heal.

For acne scars, you'll want a derma roller with 0.75-1mm needle length, and for deeper scars, 1.5mm would be best.

For scars that are not on the face, you can use a bigger sized roller such as 1.5mm and above depending on how shallow the scar is.

  • Fine Lines/Wrinkles: Derma rollers are great for fine lines and wrinkles and are often used to increase elasticity, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and help with discoloration.

We suggest that you start off with a 0.5mm roller and use it once every week or biweekly depending on your need.

  • Hyperpigmentation: Derma rollers are great for lightening hyperpigmentation by breaking up melanin clusters, which will alleviate the problem. It also helps the absorption of skin lightening cream, which further accelerates results.

We recommend any size 0.5mm and under for this skin condition.

  • Stretch Marks: Since stretch marks are deep scars in the skin, they will require a bigger sized needle.

We recommend a 1.5mm-2.0mm derma roller, which will help the dermal layers of the skin increase in thickness and gradually fade away the stretch marks, replacing them with healthy, smooth skin.

Please also note that regular, long-term use will be necessary to get rid of these marks completely.

  • Hair Loss: To stimulate endothelial growth factor production for follicle and hair growth, you can use 0.5 to 1.0mm rollers.

You can use 0.5mm once per WEEK or once per month. On the other hand, 0.75 to 1.0mm can be used once per MONTH. If it is your first time buying a derma roller, we would suggest going with the smaller size, 0.5mm.

  • Enlarged Pores: Dermarolling works very effectively against enlarged pores by producing new collagen, plumping up and tightening the appearance of the enlarged pore and effectively making them smaller.

You can reduce the size of the pores by using a derma roller with small needles no larger than 0.5mm. The size you choose will depend on your preference and how often you plan on using it.

How Often to Use it?

Frequency of use varies depending on the size of the microneedle. The smaller the needle, the more often you are able to do the treatment.

If you’re really looking to rev up your results, you may want to consider adding in additional skin care treatments between your microneedling sessions.

0.20 - 0.30mm: Can be used on daily or every second day on the same skin area.

0.5mm: Can be used weekly on the same skin area.

0.75-1.00mm: Can be used every 4-6 weeks

1.5mm: Can be used once every 6-8 weeks on the same skin area.

2.0-3.0mm: Can only be used once every 8 weeks on the same skin area.

Note: For 2.0+ mm long needles, it's recommended to use in thicker areas of the skin like thighs, back, butt, feet, arms or back of hands, rather than on the face. Professional supervision is also highly suggested for use of thicker needles.

Will I Experience Bleeding?

Depending on the size of your roller, you may or may not experience any bleeding. If you are using a 0.20-0.3mm derma roller, there will be no bleeding and it is painless. You should choose your roller based on your needs and severity of your skin condition.

The 0.20 to 0.3mm sizes cannot stimulate collagen production, and is mainly used for daily usage to enhance topical product absorption. 0.5 to 1.0mm sizes are used for moderate-deep scarring, wrinkles, and more. If you are uncertain which size to choose, we recommend to start off with 0.5mm as it can produce similar results as 1.0mm but just requires more treatments.

Some people believe that the more you bleed, the better the results. However, this is not true. Bleeding is not required for 0.20 to 0.3mm sizes. For 0.5 to 1.0mm, you will experience minimal to mild bleeding unless you roll your skin frequently and aggressively. Numbing cream will be required for sizes 1.5mm and higher as it is more painful and can lead to increased bleeding.

In general, blood is not to be expected when rolling in areas with higher fat deposit. For instance, if you are rolling your stretch marks away, you should only experience some redness in the area.

Be careful not to roll over the recommended time as it can cause increased recovery time, prolonged redness, and swelling.
